{looking back} to roanoke

Lacking things to do in my small hometown of Martinsville, my fiancé and I celebrated our two year anniversary (almost three years ago now!) by spending the day in Roanoke, Virginia, an hour north of where I live.

We went to Mill Mountain Zoo and Center in the Square, places I'd been during numerous school field-trips as a kid. The zoo was infinitely smaller than I remembered growing up! And Center in the Square was not nearly as fun... Strange how time and age can change the most seemingly familiar things.

We also spent the day eating way too much at an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet, in awe of the many paintings at the Taubman Museum of Art, walking through Barnes & Noble (of course), and getting to-go drinks for the drive back at Starbucks (of course).

Images taken with a Nikon N65. August 2008. The last image was taken from the Roanoke Star at the top of Mill Mountain.

You know, even though I live in Roanoke I've never been to the zoo. Will have to do that sometime...

I still think it's so strange that we have so many things in common. I used to love going to Mill Mountain Zoo, the Science Museum, and a certain restaurant/bar that was Betty Boop themed or something, I think it was in the square because I remember a huge farmers market near it and the museum. I can't recall the memories from 15+ years ago quite so well anymore. I need to go back.
